Nitrous oxide, also called “laughing gas,” is very appropriate for use in dental proceedings. Roughly one third of the Denver dentists practicing in the United States use it. It is one of the safest types of anesthesias there is, and any side effects are usually due to existing circumstances.
The sedation is given before the dental procedure begins. It is inhaled through a mask placed loosely over the nose. The patient will begin to feel the mild, pleasant effects within three or four minutes, after which a novocaine injection can be administered, if called for, and the Denver dentists can proceed with treatment.
